Late Payment Fee

Students who do not pay their tuition and fees by the tuition payment deadline or installment payment deadline* will be assessed a $100 late payment fee. View the Academic Calendar for the tuition payment deadline and Payment Plan for the installment due dates. The late payment fee will only be assessed once per semester.

Late payment fee will not be waived unless it is a university error.

*Must be enrolled in the payment plan for the installment payment deadlines to apply. See Payment Plan for instructions on how to enroll in a payment plan.


Late Payment Fee Appeal

The late payment fee appeals form can only be reviewed if:

  1. Tuition and fees have been paid in full – minus the late fee
  2. Documented University Error
  3. Documented Extraordinary Circumstances*

*Extraordinary Circumstances are considered to be unforeseen and must have been relevant to the payment deadline:

  • Death of an immediate family member (parent, spouse, child, sibling, or grandparents). Death certificate and documentation establishing relationship are required.
  • Call to active military service. Appropriate documentation must be included with your petition.
  • State of illness of student of such severity that prevented the student from meeting the corresponding due dates. Confirmation by a physician must be submitted.

Any reason beyond these will be denied.

Documentation must be attached or the appeal will be denied.


Late Payment Fee Appeal Form

  1. Login to MyFIU. See Access MyFIU for help.
  2. Select the 'Student Tools' tile, then 'Student E-Forms.'
  3. Select ‘Student Financials’ from the menu on the left.
  4. Under Forms, click ‘Late Payment Appeal Eform’ and follow the form instructions.
