Dear FIU Students,
The FIU Board of Trustees will consider a proposal to increase out-of-state student fees, effective Fall 2025. Please note that these increases will impact only out-of-state students in undergraduate, graduate and professional programs. However, Florida law requires that all FIU students be notified of a proposed change to any tuition and fee structure. Below is additional information about the proposed fee increases.
The board will consider the proposal at a special meeting scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30th (meeting date and time is subject to change). This is scheduled to be a virtual meeting, which can be viewed at webcast.FIU.edu.
Explanation of Fee Increases
Explanation of Out-of-State Fee increases
- Out-of-State Fee – This is the part of tuition that out-of-state students pay above in-state tuition, which was last changed more than 10 years ago. This fee maintains the quality and competitiveness of academic offerings and student services in the face of rising operational costs.. This increase ensures that out-of-state students contribute a fair share toward the total cost of instruction, facilities, and services provided by FIU.
- Out-of-State Financial Aid Fee – This fee is a percentage of the out-of-state fee. This fee funds student financial aid awards and associated administrative costs. It too has remained unchanged for more than 10 years. During this time, the university has significantly expanded its need-based and merit-based programs. The proposed increase will help to offset growing costs.
If approved by the Board of Trustees, the increase will impact out-of-state students in different programs differently. Please refer to chart for more details. Additional details will be available after the July 30th BOT meeting.
