How eligible students can use their financial aid to buy books and supplies on campus.
If the total amount of your financial aid for a semester (excluding federal work-study and alternative/private loans) exceeds the cost of tuition and fees, you may be eligible for an advance to purchase books and supplies at the beginning of the semester.
Please note, if you are participating in the Panther Book Pack, that cost will be included in the calculation, along with your tuition and fees to determine eligibility for a Financial Aid Advance for Books and Supplies (FAABS).
If you qualify for an advance, you will be notified through your Panther Mail and a link to Accept/Decline Awards will be posted on MyFIU in the Task tile.
Please note, the FAABS is not additional financial aid. It is simply an advance of the credit your financial aid will create once disbursed to your student account.
Your FAABS funds will be available on your FIU One Card (blue-colored stripe) within 30 minutes after it is accepted online. The FAABS will automatically create a charge to your Account Inquiry.
Your FAABS funds can be used to purchase course materials and supplies online at fiu.bncollege.com. Once you have selected the items you would like to purchase, proceed to checkout. Input your 7-digit Panther ID number in the “card number” field to use your FAABS funds as payment. You do not need to have the physical One Card to use this option.
Please note, if you are participating in the Panther Book Pack, the cost of your required course materials has already been accounted for, prior to disbursing your FAABS funds. You should use these funds to purchase additional materials and supplies needed for the term. You do NOT need to purchase any required course materials unless they are expressly excluded from the Panther Book Pack.
You may also use the FAABS at Ricoh and Panther Tech to purchase course materials and supplies, as needed. The funds are only allowed to be used at the FIU Barnes & Noble, Ricoh and Panther Tech until the add/drop period. After the add/drop period, any remaining funds will be transferred to the FIU One Card Cash Account to be used anywhere on campus. For more information, please visit FIU One Card Benefits.
