Initial awards for grants are based on full-time enrollment. If you are not enrolled full time, the grant will be reduced based on your actual enrollment after the add/drop period.

*Students admitted to a STEP Pathway will be awarded based on three-quarter time enrollment for the first term.

Undergraduate awards that do not require full-time enrollment will be prorated in the following manner:

At FIU scholarships and grants for eligible undergraduate students are awarded based on a percentage of their financial need.  That percentage is based on financial need and academic factors.  Financial need is determined by subtracting a student's Estimated Family Contribution (EFC), as determined from their FAFSA, from their Cost of Attendance (COA), determined based on residency for tuition purposes, living arrangements, and intended enrollment level.

Leverage Grant

The Leverage Grant is an institutional grant offered to students who are not eligible for the Pell Grant, meet the FIU FAFSA priority deadline date and demonstrate financial need. Award amounts vary and are based on the availability of funds and individual need.

Requirements

  • Submit the FAFSA
  • Have an EFC of 6207 to 8600
  • Must NOT be eligible for Pell Grant
  • Be enrolled at least half time
  • Must NOT have a previous bachelor’s degree

 


FIU Opportunity Grant

The FIU Opportunity Grant is an institutional grant offered to students who meet the FIU FAFSA priority deadline and demonstrate financial need. Award amounts vary and are based on the availability of funds and individual need.

Differential Grant

The Differential Grant is an institutional grant offered to undergraduate students who meet the FIU FAFSA priority deadline and have exceptional financial need. Award amounts vary and are based on the availability of funds and individual need.

  • Be enrolled at least half time
  • Must NOT have a previous bachelor’s degree

 


Upper Division Grant

The Upper Division Full Time Grant is awarded to undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need and meet the FIU FAFSA priority deadline. Award amounts vary and are based on the availability of funds and individual need.

Graduate Need Grant

The Graduate Need Grant is awarded to graduate students who demonstrate financial need. Funds are very limited and are awarded to students who meet the FIU FAFSA priority deadline. Award amounts vary and are based on the availability of funds and individual need. Graduate Need Grant will be awarded based on full time enrollment (9+ credits) and will be prorated to half the amount for enrollment of 5 – 8 credits.

  • Submit the FAFSA
  • Have an EFC of 0 to 8600
  • Must be a graduate student
  • Must be enrolled at least half-time (5 credits)

 

 


Students in their final semester will have the full-time requirement for certain types of aid waived.  To qualify you must (1) be in your final term of enrollment, (2) be enrolled at least half-time, and (3) be eligible to graduate at the end of the current semester based on your current enrollment.  The grant(s) will be prorated based on your actual enrollment.
